The sizes suggested here are a result of over 6 years of testing. Testing was preformed in a 141 MP paraffin/beeswax/palm steric/vybar 103 blend. Since beeswax usually needs a bigger wick your results may vary. Also, due to differences in materials, pouring temperatures and pouring styles all wicks should be tested in your own wax blend. This chart is to be used as a guide and Candle Cocoon, llc does not take responsibility for your results.
CD WICK GENERAL RULE OF THUMB
CD wicks seem to need an increase in size of one for every 1/4" increase in diameter size of candle. We count sizes as CD3, CD4, CD5, CD6, CD8, CD10, CD12, CD14,CD16,CD18,CD20,CD22. So going from a CD20 to a CD22 would could as one size increase. For example, if you are using a CD4 in an Autumn Apple 2" diameter votive then you will probably need CD8 in a 3" candle. This was 4 size changes (1"=4 (1/4"))
EL SOY WAX RULE OF THUMB
If the original paraffin size was a CD4 then the EL size will most likely be a CD10. If the Paraffin size was a CD5 then CD12. In general 4 sizes of increase are used for EL soy. For example, Brandied Pear votive takes a CD4 in paraffin so it would probably take a CD10 in the EL soy. Remember, these are starting points. Good luck and happy testing!
