  • $2.95

Sodium Lactate improves the hardness of handmade soap which makes it easier to remove from the mold and also causes it to last longer in the shower.

Sodium lactate is the sodium salt of lactic acid, and has a mild saline taste. It is produced by fermentation of a sugar source, such as corn or beets, and then, by neutralizing the resulting lactic acid to create a compound having the formula NaC₃H₅O₃

Safety in cosmetic applications

The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel assessed the safety of Sodium Lactate as used in cosmetics at <10% at final formulation and with final pH >3.5% when formulated to avoid increasing sun sensitivity or when directions for use include the daily
use of sun protection.  These ingredients are safe for use in salon products at concentrations < 30%, at final formulation pH > 3.0, in products designed for brief, discontinuous use followed by thorough rinsing from the skin, when applied by trained professionals, and when application is accompanied by directions for the daily use of sun protection.

Max Usage according to CIR
Leave-on products - <10% and pH >3.5
Rinse off products - < 30% and pH >3
