Testing Ribbon Wicks
Share

Ribbon Wicks are a newly developed wick made for larger diameter containers and hard to wick scents. We have not information on these wicks so we need to develop our own. So far on the first burn the flame is very nice looking and large. Going from left to right and back to front the wicks are CW-20, CW-50, CW90 and CW-30, CW60, CW85.
The candle bricks were burned for 4 hours and did pool together. And while that will make it impossible to get a "true" diameter read I am just happy to start getting a feel for these wicks.
We have a few scents that are very difficult to wick and I am keeping my fingers crossed that these will work in the Lovely Lilac, Rare Earth and Patchouli Dreams without double wicking a 3-4" container.
At the end of the first burn the CW-20 was pretty small and looked like it was mushrooming. It is difficult to tell if these are mushrooming or doing an unwinding of the wick.
Melt Pool Diameter at the end of first burn
CW20 - 2-34"
CW30 - 3"
CW50 - 3-1/4"
CW60 - 3-3/8"
CD85 - 3-1/2"
CD90 - 3-3/8"
More info coming.
About the Author — Lyschel Bersch, Founder of Candle Cocoon
For more than two decades, Lyschel has been studying the chemistry of candles — not just how they burn, but why they burn the way they do. As the owner of Candle Cocoon, she has personally tested thousands of wick, wax, and fragrance oil combinations, building one of the most accurate fragrance‑specific wick charts in the industry. Her work blends science, safety, and artistry, helping makers understand the “why” behind candle behavior so they can create cleaner, safer, more reliable candles. When she’s not testing wicks, she’s developing high‑purity fragrance oils and teaching makers how to elevate their craft through knowledge, not guesswork.
