The Road to Soap Making-Part 2

Melt and pour soap base
Melt and Pour Soap Base is a great starter for soap making

Well, so much for Melt & Pour being easy.  The actual soap making part may be easy but the creative part, the dye part, is very confusing.  I have to source new manufacturers.  And whenever you are dealing with new, big companies it takes a lot of time.  It always seems that no one wants to talk to you. I contacted one soap dye manufacturer 7 times over 2.5 weeks and FINALLY got a real person that I  could question mercilessly.  I do feel sorry for the poor worker that I get in contact with.  It seems that it never fails that I never have time to call until about 30 minutes before from their closing time.  Which of course always means that they are already gone.  And by the time I do actually reach someone I have so many questions built up that I will keep them long after closing (if they let me).  But my sense of loyalty is profound and if someone takes the time to answer all of my questions they will have a customer for life even if their prices are a little higher.  And I am not so evil that I demand their attention for hours after close.  I am quite content if we can set up a chat for the next day.

That being said we move on to some of my questions.  The main one being what the heck kind of dyes do people want for soap!!!  I think I have the mysteries of FD&C vs Mica vs Pigments vs Lake (still a little iffy here)  worked out.  It seems that cold process (or is it hot) can alter some of the FD&C colors.  But not the pigments?  But pigments are harder to work with?  So I think I should start with FD&C.  Well......since they are FDA approved I now think I need to get FDA certified.  Can anyone say rabbit hole!!!  Now I need to comb through the FDA regulations on dye use in soap.  And of course trying to find the correct info is about as clear as mud.   This should be fun. Actually, I am not kidding.  Don't tell anyone but this is the fun stuff for me!  More to come!!  5/30/17

Waiting....Waiting...Waiting.....I have all of the soap bases on the website!  The only problem is that the soap  base is still not here!  I guess Monday will be our lucky day.  I just can't wait to get my hands on some soap base to start playing! I am also reading C. Kaila Westerman's book "Melt & Mold Soap Crafting" to get some fund creative ideas.  Oh, and I need to order molds....  6/2/17
