Cheap and Effective Wick Holders for Candle Making
Posted by Lyschel Bersch on
When making a candle it is important that the wick stays in the center of the candle and it is taunt. There are many ways to achieve this; metal wick holders and all kinds of doo-dads and doo-hickies are for sale by candle suppliers. For the long term I would strongly suggest investing in some actual candle making device because they will last a lot longer and decrease frustration. But if you are just starting out or need a quick fix this is a fast, easy and cheap problem solver, this is the way to go!.
Many people will tie the wick around a pencil to hold the wick in place as you pour the candle. The problem with this is that when the wick gets warmed it will go slack. If the wick is not taunt it can cause the candle to burn poorly. It could even give enough slack that the wick could touch the glass and cause your candle to shatter. You need to tighten your wick after pouring your candle. So, instead of untying and retying your wick you can try this super simple wick holder trick.
So, for the Candle Cocoon Method - All you need is a rubber band and 2-craft sticks.
The sticks need to be longer than the mold or container. Simply attach the sticks together with the rubber band.
After your attach your wick to the bottom of your candle thread your wick between the sticks and place on top of your candle container or mold. After you pour your wax gently tighten your wick. No more slack!
If you would like to order craft sticks, rubber bands or the wick holder assemble kit please order here.
