Kokum Butter
Kokum Butter
Our Kokum Butter comes from the seeds of the Kokum tree (Garcinia indica) which are used to produce the natural butter. Kokum butter is refined, resulting in a smooth, dense butter that is white to off-white in color and has a nonexistent odor or very mild. It is believed to promote skin elasticity, prevent skin dryness and restore damaged skin and is suitable for many cosmetic applications. Often used in place of coconut oil in many applications that require the product to melt into skin such as lotions.

Kokum butter is very much like cocoa butter, but I like it justa tiny bit more. It is not quite as hard as cocoa butter so it melts a tad faster than cocoa butter. We all know smaller pieces melt faster. When I need to break down cocoa butter, I have to use a hammer. However, I can cut kokum butter with a good pair of scissors :) And as much as I love the natural scent of cocoa butter, sometimes that can sway the scent of my finished product. Kokum butter does not any scent to it. Kokum butter can be substituted for all formulas using any of the hard butters. I use this in my soaps along with babassu oil, I can actually wash my face now, it is not drying or greasy whatsoever!
