Polysorbate 80
from $5.00
Polysorbate 80 otherwise known as (Tween 80) is probably best know for it's ability to prevent bath tub rings from the use of bath bombs. By causing the oils to more evenly disperse and not pool on the surface. The Polysorbate 80 ends up also carrying along the dyes, micas and pigments.
Polysorbate 80 is created by the reaction of sorbitan fatty acid ester (a nonionic surfactant) with ethylene oxide, is used in many foreign countries, including the U.S. and the EU, where it acts as an emulsifier, a solubilizer in many foods, including bread, cake mix, salad dressing, shortening oil and chocolate. Polysorbate 80 is a hydrophilic nonionic surfactant. It is utilized as a surfactant in soaps and cosmetics and also as a lubricant in eye drops. In food or pharmaceutical products, it can act as an emulsifier. A solubilizing agent acts as a surfactant and increases the solubility of one agent in another. A substance that would not normally dissolve in a particular solution is able to dissolve with the use of a solubilizing agent. It is also known as an emulsifier, which helps ingredients mix together and prevent separation, and water-containing small amounts of salts, and is included in several vaccines licensed in the USA According to the National Library of Medicine
According to CIR Polysorbate 80 (100%) was not dermal irritating. Polysorbate 80 - Safe as used in cosmetics >50%

As many customers have inquired about process aids, we offer the following information:
Our process aids are used in small amounts, on an as needed basis, and are not essential for product function. They are subject to change as they are constantly evolving and changing due to the availability of newer and better materials, marketplace demands, etc. In order to provide our customers with various desired features such as ease of remelting and re-batching, finished product final appearance, etc. we may or may not use small amounts of the following (or similar) materials: Bio Propylene Glycol (made entirely from vegetable glycerine) This material is often omitted but we have also listed it as an ingredient as larger amounts are sometimes used.
*****Excluded in FREE soap bases: Cocamidopropylamine Oxide (made from renewable vegetable sources), Disodium Sulfosuccinate (made from renewable vegetable sources), Cocamidopropyl Betaine (made from renewable vegetable sources).
***All the above materials are biodegradable. SLS or SLES are not used.
***Vegan!
***NOTE***Melt and Pour Soap base may arrive a bit brittle due to freezing in transport. We are in WI so there is nothing we can do about that. Chances are very good your base will have frozen at some point. The base will be fine. You should test a small amount before making a larger batch by heating in the microwave and cutting.
If brittle from freezing -
Single Pour Bar Soap (not cutting from a loaf) - No special treatment is necessary. Can be used "as is" and the finished bar will be harder than normal/last longer. Or you can add 3-5% water or glycerine to bring the soap back to original texture.
Loaf Soap (Will be sliced) - To soften the soap for slicing add water or glycerine at about 7% - 10% for nice slices. You can use an even higher amount but test prior to putting in colors/fragrance since you can always remelt add more soap etc.
Remember adding more glycerine will increase sweating but also makes a more moisturizing soap.
