The Road to Soap Making-Part 2
Posted by Lyschel Bersch on
Melt and Pour Soap Base is a great starter for soap making Well, so much for Melt & Pour being easy. The actual soap making part may be easy but the creative part, the dye part, is very confusing. I have to source new manufacturers. And whenever you are dealing with new, big companies it takes a lot of time. It always seems that no one wants to talk to you. I contacted one soap dye manufacturer 7 times over 2.5 weeks and FINALLY got a real person that I could question mercilessly. I do feel sorry for the poor...
A New Road! Soap Making! Gulp.

I have always said that when I know everything there is to know about candle making that I would move on to soap. Well, I can't say that is the case. The candle making field is changing and growing so fast with different waxes that it is almost impossible to keep up. So, while I don't know everything I feel that my 30 year background gives me a pretty good and strong breath of knowledge in which to draw upon. I now venture into soap. I go tentatively. Maybe even kicking and screaming a little. Soap making scares me. No...

For instance, you probably see a lot of melts that are poured into clam shells or other plastic containers. There couldn't be a simpler way to make melts. All you would do is mix your scent into your...
Getting the Perfect Black in Soy Wax Candles
Posted by Lyschel Bersch on
Getting a beautiful black in candles has always been a challenge. Each black color always seems to have just a tinge of red, blue or yellow. Many blacks in soy never really look "black". They often look just dark gray or purple. Or some other "kinda black" looking color. We at Candle Cocoon are working on improving the black that we have. Our Spicebush is a very good black when enough Flutter Dyes are used. Over the years the raw materials have changed a bit and the color doesn't seem to be exactly the same. So we are currently working...
