Decyl Glucoside is a non-toxic, non-ionic, natural plant based, sugar-derived surfactant created through the esterification of cornstarch glucose and natural fatty alcohol from coconut oil. It shares similar properties with other surfactants, exhibiting a balance of non-ionic mildness and anionic like foaming. This distinct quality makes it suitable for use as both a primary and co-surfactant in various formulations, including soaps, shampoos, and body washes. Safety in cosmetic applications
The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel assessed the safety of Decyl Glucoside as used in cosmetics and concluded that this ingredient is safe in the present practices of use and concentration when formulated to be nonirritating. While Decyl Glucoside acts as a surfactant in cosmetic it may also have additional functions as skin-conditioning agents, hair-conditioning agents, or emulsion stabilizers.
How to Use (starting suggestions): Add to the water stage.
Shower gel : 2-30% by weight
Shampoo: 2-30% by weight
Wipes: .5% by weight
Micellar water: 3% by weight
Usage Rate: The Cosmetic Ingredient Review has not specified a maximum usage. Usage should be to the point of irritation which may be looked at more in the future. Rule of thumb not determined by the CIR, Up to 50% but start closer to .5%
