Winter is coming.....! No dragons around to keep you warm?

You don't have to love Game of Thrones to appreciate these cool candles.  But it doesn't hurt.  This project would work well with any thin mold that has a raised figure.

It was interesting how these came about.  I found these molds over 6 months ago and thought they would make neat melt and pour soaps.  But they were so thin that I didn't think they would really work.  Then awhile ago I gave a class and someone dumped in 3oz of Dragon's Blood in just 8oz of Golden Wax 464.  WAY too much scent since only .3oz is needed for 8oz of soy wax.  So we put the wax aside.  Anyway, there sat both items.  Until today.

Janna (our store manager) came up with these.  She diluted the Dragon's Blood scent properly and dyed it more of a blood red.  She used 2 Flutter Dyes Canary Red Admiral and 1/2 Flutter Dye Spicebush for the body of the color.  She used a CDN12 in the 4oz tin.  (2.75" diameter).

As the red body was setting up she made the medallions (crests).  She used 8oz of our Candle Cocoon Votive wax to get 28 crests.  6 Spicebush Flutterdyes were used.  She poured them as think as possible.  Notice how they bubble up higher than the mold.

When she took them out of the molds she noticed that you really couldn't see the picture.  So she used a little rub and buff - silver.  She applied it very lightly with a glove over the areas she wanted to highlight.  You don't want to use too much because it is a pigment and will clog wicks.

Next she heated a wick pin with a heat gun and poked it through the crest so that the wick could poke through.

She then gently heated the surface of the candle and put the crest on top.
Turned out absolutely beautiful!!!!
