Candle Cocoon Labels for Fragrance Oils - New Information Included

Times are changing and so are our labels for our fragrance oils. Candle Cocoon had always been focused on candles. I never thought we would actually be entering the field of soap making! So our old labels reflected the needs of only candle makers with a nod to soap and lotion making. We have all of our oils tested for use in candles but for soaps they were only evaluated as to whether or not they could be used in soaps and lotions and not maximums. If it was under 5% we had marked them as not safe.

You will notice that the first half of the label looks the same. I just love my logo so that isn't going anywhere! We still leave a space between the name of the fragrance oil and other information to mark the weight of the oil on the bottle. You will see 1oz, 2oz, 4oz, 8oz or 16oz depending on the size that you get.
We have gotten rid of the gel safety information. We had stopped doing gel tests on our newer oils because we have not had a request for a gel safe scent in over.....7 years.
We now have the actual allowable amounts of the individual fragrance oil for soap and lotions in the middle of the labels along with the flash point. Some people like to use flash point in their candle making. I do not think it is necessary but I am happy to provide this information if it is helpful.
We have also added "Phthalate FREE" to all of our labels. They have always been phthalate free but apparently just because I know that doesn't mean everyone else knows that info :)
Finally, and the biggest change for our candle makers is that we are getting away from a specific weight per pound to a percent. We have a ton of international clients and most do not weigh in ounces! Going by percent is universal. Some folks find it challenging to work with at first but it really is easier. The quick and dirty method is to simply take the amount of wax that you want to use, say 16oz (1pound) and multiply it by the percent. In this case for the Amore Dolce it is 3.7% so 16oz x .037 = .6oz of scent to use with 16oz of wax. Just remember to keep the labels the same!
Technically this isn't totally correct math. You should actually deduct .6oz of wax before you add the .6oz of fragrance oil to get the math 100% correct. But the effect is pretty negligible. Plus "Our Usage" is only a guideline and starting point for your testing. You really just need to be consistent with the way that you want to do things. Just remember to take good notes!
You will also see that the candle usage is specifically tested for GW (Golden Wax 464). Golden Wax 464 is a soy wax. But not all soy waxes are created equal and your results may vary. We had originally tested in Enchanted Lites Classic wax but had to re-do our entire line because we switched over to Golden Wax 464.Stay tuned as we are actually in the process of switching over to Millennium Soy! It never ends.
